Hotel
Oro Verde is a ‘21st century hotel’ with world-class
stature which caters to national and international businessmen
looking for a special place to stay
UAYAQUILS
most prestigious and luxurious hotel, and host to a
number of international statesmen during their visits
to the city, such as Bill Clinton, George Bush Sr.,
and Al Gore, is its Hotel
Oro Verde (Green Gold Hotel).
Consequently, it is one of the few Latin American hotels
whose security standards have been approved by both
the CIA and the FBI. Part of the Leading Hotels of the
World chain, Hotel Oro Verde exudes European style,
luxury and cuisine in the heart of Ecuadors most
promising city.
Oro Verde offers its guests a choice of 212 luxury rooms
including 60 suites and one presidential suite on the
executive floor. All rooms are well equipped with mini-bar,
safety box, cable TV, air conditioning, wireless Internet
connection, and advanced telephony, and offer laundry
and 24-hour room service. The Oro Verde has consistently
been recognized as Guayaquils leading hotel for
its outstanding service and exclusivity, and has likewise
been the recipient of a number of prestigious international
awards such as last years World Travel Award.
Our strategy is to provide the best possible service,
says General Manager Sergio Rosarios. We
are the only hotel in Ecuador that really has successfully
implemented protocols. We put a great deal of effort
into training our staff. We have a wonderful infrastructure
here in the hotel but even with that, it all comes down
to service.
The Oro Verde has been ISO 9001 certified for quality
since 2000, a first for an Ecuadorian hotel, and has
also achieved OHSAS 18001 certification for the standard
of its human resources. Most recently it was awarded
the 14001 certification for its environmental friendliness.

The
Oro Verdes four restaurants uphold its world-class
stature. Le Gourmet offers classic French food in elegant
surroundings, and has been named Guayaquils best
French restaurant. An inviting atmosphere is found at
the hotels Swiss restaurant, La Fondue, where
clients can enjoy intimate conversations over exquisite
fondues and raclettes. For some down time the hotel
also boasts a patio restaurant that offers traditional
Ecuadorian dishes as well as a range of international
favorites, and a gourmet deli which serves mouthwatering
pastries, ice cream and Swiss bakery products. At the
Captains Bar, clients can partake of the countrys
abundant varieties of tropical fruit in a range of tropical
cocktails while enjoying live daily music.
Strategically located in Guayaquils financial
and commercial districts, the Oro Verde was built 25
years ago to cater to business clientele. Consequently,
it offers a full range of business facilities including
full secretarial services, personal computers, fax,
photocopy and courier service, cell phones, business
card and stationary printing and full translation services.
Two meeting rooms are available for the use of guests,
and the hotel also boasts excellent event and convention
facilities with capacity for up to 700 people.
The hotels long standing tradition of serving
business travelers will hold it in good steed now that
the municipality is promoting the city as a business
tourism destination. In addition, the construction of
Guayaquils new convention and exhibit center at
the Simón Bolívar International Airport
will also benefit the Oro Verde as it is located only
eight minutes away.
More than 70 percent of our guests are businessmen,
and of those, nearly 80 percent come from the United
States, comments Mr. Rosarios. Guayaquils
orientation towards the corporate customer is changing
the face of our tourism sector. Our average occupancy
has been growing throughout the last three years mainly
because of the efforts of Mayor Nebot to improve business
tourism in the city and we hope that it will continue
to grow.
Moreover, the hotel has been undergoing remodeling throughout
the last three years in order to transform it into what
Mr. Rosarios calls a 21st Century Hotel.
All of the rooms have been completely and tastefully
redone, and are now finished with new windows, carpeting
and air-conditioning. Likewise, the lobby and the hotels
restaurants have been renovated and enjoy a newly decorated
demeanor that has earned the hotel the reputation of
being the most modern in Guayaquil.
Regarding Mayor Nebots desire to establish Guayaquil
as the main gateway to the Galapagos Islands, Mr. Rosarios
agrees that it is the right direction to move in, not
only for what the city has to offer its tourists in
transit but also in a real sense of the logistics of
the trip. There are technical realities that make
Guayaquil the best entry point to the Galapagos. The
flight is shorter from here than from Quito, our airport
never closes due to inclement weather, and the Galapagos
Islands offer the first or second best diving in the
world, because it is at sea level. Divers cannot fly
back to Quito after their trip because of its high altitude,
he observes.
