United World: Pastor Alex, you are a very charismatic figure in the country. We know that in 1977 you pioneered the fellowship program in your home, which evolved into Gereja Bethany Indonesia.
Mr. Alex: Our Church has around 800 branches, of which 40 overseas branches. I just want to obey the Lord. I am just a servant of the Lord. I am nothing. God provides all our needs, even the licenses and down to the people who criticized us because of their misunderstanding. I started out with a small church of 300 congregations. I started serving the Lord in 1995 in a small city. Then I moved here and my congregation has grown ever since. I did it step by step and not at once. Now I am contributing, thought he Bethany Church, to a project that will give unity to Indonesia. It is the Menara Jakarta project.

United World: Capital cities are remembered for their icons. The Malaysians have the Petronas tower in Kuala Lumpur and there is the Vatican in Rome.
Mr. Alex:Yes, so we must have one as well. This is why PT Prasada Japa Pamudja is building the Jakarta Tower, which will be the highest tower in the world. PT Prasada Japa Pamudja provides a clear example of how a religious organization can work together with the government and with private organizations and further contribute to the welfare of Indonesia.

The parliament has come to see the construction of the building. They endorse the project too. The Government supports us. All entities and partners in media broadcasting and retails are welcome to join us.

The Tower will serve to various purposes. First, it will be an icon for Indonesia so that the world could recognize our country. Secondly, it will contribute to our country's transition into the upcoming digital era of broadcasting in Indonesia, especially for the existing broadcasters as our plan to be the third party sharing digital provider. Above all, the main aim of the tower is to give back to the community providing jobs and operating quality programs such as educational and religious for 200 million people. So although we started out only with the funds that we accumulated, contributed by our congregations, the Lord has helped us by providing us with investors and donations. Even though mainly Christians construct the tower, we are building it for all the Indonesians, no matter their colour or religious background. Once the tower will be completed, it will benefit all the Indonesian people.

We have the Bethany family, but the tower will be open to everyone, it will be a symbol for the nation: the Tower of the unity.
