The Muscat stock exchange (MSM) is growing rapidly due to the country’s extremely dynamic economy.

he sultanate of Oman boasts a thriving, well-regulated financial services industry comprised of large local, commercial and specialized banks, non-banking financial institutions and international banks, both from across the region and beyond. The Muscat Securities Market (MSM), created in the late 1980s, has become one of the most transparent and highly regarded stock markets in the region. With the stock market, the Capital Markets Authority of Oman, the Muscat Depository and Securities Registration Company, and Vision Investment Services, Oman now has the tools to provide the investor community in the Sultanate with quality investment options.

Oman’s capital market is currently abuzz with the IPO of Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), which sent a message to international investors that Oman is committed to privatization.

“The Omantel IPO can really add to the market’s activities and to the market itself, both in its liquidation and by its contribution,” says Abdullah bin Salem Al-Salmi, Chairman of Muscat Securities Market.

INTERVIEW

Ali Mohammed Juma (INTERVIEW), CEO of Vision Investment Services Company, says that the IPO has increased the nation’s investment awareness and encouraged direct distribution of wealth to the country.

“Apart from this, privatization upgrades the quality of service, facilitates competition and increases market activities that will lead to a boost in the economy,” Mr. Juma explains.

As far as Vision Investment Services’ own growth strategy is concerned, Mr. Juma says it is based on viewing each investment opportunity independently. “Our structured investment model is based on in-depth research, taking into consideration the market scenarios, historical background and management style among other criteria.”
