Building a healthy future: company focuses on hospital construction

Construction Sector Manager of Al-Fouzan Trading & General Construction Co.

onstruction is one of the largest economic sectors in Saudi Arabia, along with petrochemicals, mining, oil and oil-related industries. Its steady expansion is likely to continue over the next five years, following the growth in industry and public spending on hospitals, schools and universities.

Specializing in the building of hospitals is Al-Fouzan Trading & General Construction Co., which has been operating since 1993. “Specialization in hospitals is challenging. We are equipped with expert engineers and technicians, and we work with doctors to know their needs,” says Tariq Al-Fouzan, the company’s construction sector manager.

Al Fouzan’s best-executed project is the cardiovascular center in King Fahd Hospital which has five state-of-the-art operation rooms where they perform all types of advanced surgery. The company is also justly proud of the oncology building in King Faisal Specialist Hospital. Current projects include a hospital in Riyadh, set to be finished by the end of 2006, and, as a change from the norm, a university.

Construction projects are constantly getting underway, such as a women’s university and various new healthcare facilities.

Other changes are in the pipeline says Mr. Al-Fouzan. “Over the next five years we will go from being a family business to a joint stock company. We will expand, and maybe open new divisions.” Entering into joint ventures at this stage falls within the company’s plans.
